Chinese New Year 2011

We welcome a brand new 2011 with our Lunar Chinese New Year. Celebration lasts throughout for 15 days starting from 03Feb.
It's a day of receiving Ang Baos (Red Packet) for good wishes and blessings. Though so, we must not forget to reciprocate by giving our parents Red Packet also.

This year Bak Kua is selling at exhorbitant prices ($50 per kg!)
Normal time cost only $20-$30 per kg.. We never bought it but i got a packet free as a festive gift! Yeehar :)

There are some CNY goodies like the ever popular Pineapple Tarts, mini prawn rolls, mini pork floss samosa, cashew nuts, pistachios and all kinds of sweets etc..and the list goes on!  It is important to offer our prayers to our ancestors and Buddha. We prepare fresh flowers, fruits and food. Abit of hard work though. :)

My mum always prepare many goodies to satisfy our taste bud. As we go vegetarian on this day. All food excludes meat, garlic, onion, leek etc. Look wat my mum came up with, a vegetarian prawn fritters and the ever popular vegetarian spring rolls. It's a big hit! There are others like vege mock duck, vege char siew, vege fish etc. Must say that all these taste quite nice and not forgetting pipping hot peanut soup to round up our sumptuos meal. Yummy!

Preserved plums are among the must buy list for CNY. It's nice to eat but beware of high salt and sugar content. Anyway, one year once, who cares right?
